What is Microscopy ?
Micro Means one part of a Million and Scope means To see. Hence Microscopy is the study of small things of the order of Micron.
Binocular Microscope
Different Types of Microscopes :
There are Different Types of Microscopes : They are classified on the Basis of Different criteria such as Viewing Head, Principal of Image Formation, Application, etc.
Different Types of Microscopes :
Viewing Heads : Monocular Microscope - Microscopes having only one Eyepiece, Binocular Microscopes - Microscopes having Two Eyepieces, Trinocular Microscopes - Microscopes having Three Viewing Eyepieces ( Two for Viewing & One for Photography - Known as Photo Eyepiece ) Principle of Image Formation : 1) Simple Microscope - A magnifying glass- The Dissecting Microscope. 2) Compound Microscope - These Microscope have Two stage of Magnification - Most of the Microscopes used in Pathology, Metallurgy, etc are of these type. The Image is Real and Inverted. 3) Stereo Microscopes - These Microscope have 3D Images and the Images are Virtual one and Erect. 4) Electro Magnetic Image Formation : Electron Microscopes are the examples of these types Based on Application : Phase Contrast Microscopes : Flourescense Microscopes: Ore Microscopes : Metallurgical Microscopes : Comparision Misroscope : Surgical Operating Microscopes : Confocal Microscopes :
Image Analysis Software
Image Analysis software
In Recent days Most of the Microscopes are aided with Image analysis Software. A Typical Software layout is given in the above , which is from Vision Micro Systems. These systems are known as Image Analysis Systems which mainly consists of A Microscope, A Digital Camera, A Computer and A Image analysis software. These software helps to determine various parameters like Area, Cell count, Perimeter, Distribution, and many.
Specification of VISION Image Capture and Analysis Software
CAPTURE :
Captures Images from your Digital Camera which has a better Image quality than CCD analog cameras . The Images are directly saved to your desired Directory.
ANALYSIS :
The captured Image can be analyzed as per your requirement like :1. Length Measurement2. Area Measurement3. Perimeter Measurement.4. Particle (cells) Counts.5. Histogram and Cell Distribution.6. Calibration and size determination.7. Angle Measurement8. Filters to Enhance the Image.
CAPTURE AND AUTO SAVE :
Automatic saving and naming the desired Image from the Screen to your desired Directory.
SLIDE DISPLAY :
The directory of your Images will be displayed on the right side , you can switch it On/Off whenever necessary without
PRINT YOUR PRE-DESIGNED REPORT :
You can have a predefined Report Format and have the print on just a mouse click
HELP AT YOUR FINGER TIP :
Online contact Information, E-Mail, Web Site , at your finger tip to Help you round the Clock.
CD COPY :
You can copy your file from the software instantly and keep a backup.
PASSWORD PROTECTED :
The software is protected by password and unauthorized operation is avoided.
Application in Various Fields :
There are a vast fields where Microscopy is being used. Such as
1) Pathology
2) Medical field - Surgery
3) Metallurgy
4) Petrology
5) Jewellery
6) Molecular Biology
7) Genetics
8) Forensic science
Maintenance Tips :
Since Microscopes have optical parts and must be handled with care. If the Eyepiece or Objectives fall will eventuall get damaged. The fungus growh and Dust are the main things which damage the anti reflection (AR) coatings . Once the optics are damaged cant be recovered except for factory. So one should cover the microscope to avoid dust from getting in and use a dehumidifier where the microscope is kept since the fungus growth increases with Humidity. For Hobbiest use a Covering Jar ( Closed Cabinets ) for Microscope and Keep Silica Gel Crystals inside the cabinate. (Indicator Type - so when it changes colour, you know it is time to change it)
